Crucifixion became the symbol of dominance of the Roman Empire for centuries. In some ways Jesus’ death on a cross was not unlike thousands of others who suffered the wrath or Rome. On the other hand, Jesus’ crucifixion stands out as unique because he is unlike anyone who has ever lived or died. Jesus’ earthly life is one of surrender and sacrifice that culminates with his sufferings and death on the cross. To look at Jesus’ sacrificial death is to see a summary of his sacrificial life. In this series of messages we will look at Jesus’ life through the lens of his death and see how it challenges and changes our own living and dying.
