Women's Groups:

What is the purpose of the United Methodist Women? 

Is it an organization that meets and does nothing and has no purpose, or is it an organization with purpose and meaning that truly exhibits love for God through outreach and mission?  If you chose the latter definition, you are correct. One definition states that the purpose of the United Methodist Women “shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the Church.”  Members raise nearly $25 million each year for programs and projects related to women, children and youth in the United States and in more than 100 countries around the world.  Wow, what a contribution these women make to our churches, our religion, and to society in general. The women who are involved in UMW groups at Mount Zion seek to know God on a more personal level and to make life better for women, children, youth and neighbors in the ever-expanding village of today’s world.  According to the Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church, “In every local church there shall be an organized unit of United Methodist Women.” What an honor that women and their purpose are included in the Book of Discipline!

We have three active women’s groups at Mt. Zion.  If you are not attending one, we invite you to visit one soon!

Stevens/Lane Circle is a very diverse group of ladies from two circles that combined in 2005. The circle name is in memory of two important ladies from our church, Lena Stevens and Meredyth Lane. These ladies not only inspired the women of Mt. Zion, but the men and children as well. The circle holds a White Elephant sale in the spring that was the pet project of the Lena Stevens circle. They also have three brunches during the year and a big Christmas dinner for our senior citizens.  This originated with the Meredyth Lane circle. The mission of the Stevens/Lane Circle is to help our senior citizens, reach out to all ladies of our church and community, be ambassadors for Mount Zion, and honor God.  Meetings are held on the third Monday night of the month, except during the summer.  All women are welcome.

Morning Glory Circle meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m.  We have a program and a light lunch.  We also visit assisted care centers two or three times each year.  We have a Christmas social with a home-cooked meal and gift exchange.  We welcome visitors and new members.
